Technical Support and Network Technician

Location: Dawson Creek, British Columbia
Employment Type: Full-Time (35–40 hours/week)
Work Arrangement: In-Person
Wage: $32.00 to $36.00 to start, based on experience

Peace Region Internet Society (PRiS) is a community-minded, not-for-profit Internet Service Provider proudly serving rural communities throughout the BC and Alberta Peace Region. Since 1996, we have been dedicated to connecting homes, farms, businesses, and communities with reliable, locally supported internet services. We are a small and dedicated team who strives to meet the needs of our members.

Reporting to the Technical Administrator, the Technical Support & Network Technician provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support to PRiS members while assisting with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of our wireless and cable broadband networks. The successful applicant will troubleshoot technical issues, configure customer equipment, monitor network performance, maintain accurate documentation, and deliver exceptional customer service, while supporting the day-to-day operation of the organization.

This is an in-person position based in Dawson Creek, BC.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide Tier 1 and 2 technical support for residential and business Internet customers via phone, email, and ticketing system.
  • Troubleshoot wireless and cable internet connectivity issues using network monitoring and management tools.
  • Diagnose customer equipment including routers, wireless radios, modems, switches, and related networking hardware.
  • Provision and configure customer equipment, including routers and wireless radios.
  • Monitor network performance and identify service disruptions affecting customers.
  • Escalate complex tier 3 network issues to Technical Administrator while providing detailed documentation of troubleshooting completed.
  • Maintain accurate records of member interactions, work performed, and resolutions within the ticketing system.
  • Perform remote diagnostics and, when required, travel to member sites or network facilities for troubleshooting and equipment replacement.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours service interruptions.
  • Assist with documentation, standard operating procedures, and internal knowledge base articles.
  • Assist in the administration of the organization's health and safety program, including maintaining documentation, coordinating inspections, and promoting safe work practices.
  • Assist with creating social media content, including service announcements, maintenance notifications, community updates, and promotional materials.
  • Represent PRiS professionally while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate the following skills:

Technical Skills

  • Diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in Information Technology, Computer Networking, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
  • Experience troubleshooting routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and Internet connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Experience working with ticketing systems and remote support tools.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driving record.

Nice to Have

  • Linux system administration.
  • Experience with wireless ISP equipment (Cambium, Ubiquiti, MikroTik) would be considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with IP subnets, VLANs, OSPF and BGP routing protocols.
  • Familiarity with wireless radio communications is an asset.
